Hello, it's Happy Bike Day.
I want to rent a motorcycle in Thailand to travel, but I don't have an international license, so I'm posting because there are many inquiries about whether I can rent a motorcycle.
You can rent without an international license. (Outside of Bangkok, you can usually check and lend your passport. Bangkok has many exceptions. Check your license.)
However, police crackdowns can result in fines.
In that regard, it is possible with the consent that the person renting the motorcycle is solely responsible. The fine is usually 500 to 1000 baht for crackdown without a license.
The money taken during the police crackdown is usually in the police's own pocket. Police are also a kind of pocket money. They purposely crack down on foreigners who don't wear helmets.
Locals don't usually crack down even if they don't wear helmets.
There are more fines without helmets than fines that are cracked down without a license. If you don't wear a helmet, the law in Bangkok will be changed from June 1, 2025, and you can be charged from 1,000 baht to 2,000 baht. It is common to be cracked down on without wearing a helmet, so please wear a helmet If you wear your helmet well, you'll be almost never cracked down. (And don't give the police all the money you want. If you call me 1000 baht, I'm only 500 baht right now, or if I call you 2000 baht, I'll give you 1,500 baht. If you say you don't have money, I'll give you money
So, don't give everything you want, and you have to bargain like you don't have money. Don't try to fight even if it's cracked down, but you have to pay funny and good money to solve it, so you don't blame anything else. It's just comfortable to think that you weren't lucky.
And there's a bigger fine here than this, which is a crackdown on alcohol.
If you are cracked down while driving under the influence of alcohol, you will usually be fined 20,000 million baht (about 800,000 won in Korean won). Drinking also makes money for police, so they crack down a lot at night (not drunk during the day). Drinking will be released if you pay a fine, but if you don't pay the fine, you will remain in custody, so please be careful not to drink.
Thailand is a different country from Korea. It's a completely capitalist country, and if you give me money, I'll just let the left one go and move on. So with this in mind, if you don't mind, you can rent a bike.
Summary: If you wear a helmet well, you won't worry too much about the crackdown. I hope you understand that the fine is not that big even if you don't have a license. (No drinking and driving)
I talked about this part because you asked a lot of questions
Thank you and I hope you have a great trip to Thailand ^^
